Franklin Country Club Golf Tournament
November 11, 2013
Though it sits a long way from the battlegrounds of the Middle East, the Franklin Country Club of Franklin, MA has deep ties to the soldiers fighting there. A member’s son-in-law served in the Forward Support Company 65th Engineer Battalion and another’s brother was deployed with Joint Base Cape Cod, home of the Black Hawk helicopter unit whose call sign is “Bosox.” Many among the Club’s membership are also veterans of the armed services themselves and remember their time in the service. Recognizing its strong bonds to our nation’s fighting forces, Franklin Country Club was looking for ways to show their support and help a worthy cause. After learning about our mission, they elected to donate Naturally, a Golf tournament seemed like a fun, meaningful way to come together and raise funds for SoldierStrong.Held on Veterans’ Day (November 11th) 2013, the tournament was a smashing success. Braving the blustery New England Autumn weather, the members had a great time and enjoyed a pleasant round of golf in honor of our country’s veterans.
At the end of the day, they had raised $12,664 for Soldier Socks, a whopping sum that was used to purchase requested supplies for the two units serving in Afghanistan. While the tournament was a lot of fun, the best part for everyone involved was the feeling of giving back to their brothers and sisters fighting overseas.
On behalf of Soldier Socks, thanks to everyone at Franklin Country Club for their generous contribution!
